The Rise of the New Independent Male

When a high school kid asked, "Do you believe in God," I cringed. "Oh fuck," I thought. "Be careful what you say, or one of these kids will make a passing remark at dinner - causing their no-good parents to ask why a boxing coach is teaching godlessness."

"Well," I answered, "I have my beliefs, and everyone else has their own beliefs. It's important to respect differences of opinion."

Joey laughed, knowing that I was being a bitch. "Have you seen the George Carlin video about God," Armen asked? I started laughing, as did the other dozen guys in the room.

None of them believed in God.

One of the most interesting political-culture movements isn't yet understood as a movement. I don't even understand it, and I am part of it.

The Internet has created a new species of males. Men are natural information seekers, but for most of our lives, we were denied access to information. We were told what our religious and cultural brain washers told us. If our parents said it, it was true. If the news reporter, doctor, or teach said it, it was true.

We became part of the lies, because we were conditioned to obey and conform since birth. Our parents told us of the Eternal Damnation that would result if we ignored our Lord and Savior - a laughable superstition to a rational thinker, but a terrifying prospect for a small child.

We got married, had children, and worked ourselves to heart disease in shit jobs, because that's what "real men" do. We saw other men raped in divorce court, but by then we had become part of the lie.

Then came the Internet.

§§§

Most people lose their faith during college. Once a Christian talks to a Jew and Muslim, they all reach the same conclusion: "All religions are the same, and since all religions are the same, it cannot follow that any one of them has logical or moral authority over others."

Any religious parent will notice a change when a child comes home from college. Where there was once faith, there is doubt. Where there was once obedience, there is rebellion. Where there was once blind allegiance, there is defiance.

Yet it's hard to remain an atheist or political independent, since it requires undoing decades of brain washing. Moreover, most young men leave college for the work force - where old, bitter, beta males will have none of your tomfoolery. Henpecked at home, these pathetic excuses for men make oppressing young men their lifes' work.

Young men grew old. Their testosterone levels dropped, and they lacked a network of other men to turn to for wise advice. Before the Internet, that is.

§§§

Just as more men are becoming atheists, more are becoming political agnostics. We know that both the Wall Street Journal and New York Times are scam publications. We know that Democrats and Republicans are scoundrels and thieves, and do not speak for us.

What are the implications of this new reality?

§§§

I do not understand it. I do know that a representative sample of the movement blogs as Ferdinand Bardamu. In a very intelligent post, he writes of political armaggddon. I know that Roosh is a very smart guy, as is Roissy, and so too is The Futurist.

I know that the smartest men I read and talk to are disgusted by the two-party system. None of us buy into this bullshit system.

In every era, smart, educated, 30-something men changed culture. Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence when he was 31. Alexander Hamiltion wrote the Federalist Papers when he was 33. Thomas Paine published Common Sense in his late-30's.

The old grumps who today worship the Founding Fathers don't know their history. The Founding Fathers were not fathers: They were young men.

Most guys my age and younger are political nihilists, and I'm left wondering what the result will be.

Hedge Fund Manager Sends Game-Changing E-mail

This video and blog post should be cited in any case where an executive asserts attorney-client privilege:

"Whenever I write an email that has those words, 'You should start to think about foreclosing on these people...' you'll notice that I CC Tom..."

"What I'm trying to do there is create attorney client privilege. So that's a signal, that's a way for us to shield ourselves."

In the video, Max Holmes, the founder of Plainfield Asset Management, admits that his lawyer has "no clue" about "hundreds of e-mails" that Holmes sends each year. The lawyer is not giving or offering legal advice. Instead, Max Holmes is trying to shield non-protected communications. (That's the best case. The worst case is that he's using his lawyer to cover-up fraud.)

Corporate executives have done this for decades. They will CC their lawyers on shady business matters, knowing that courts are reluctant to allow discovery into the executive's lawyer's e-mails.

It's been hard for plaintiff's lawyers to convince a judge to allow discovery of e-mails sent to the executive's e-mail. Claims that Max Holmes and others abuse the attorney-client privilege have been dismissed as conjecture and speculation.

Now you have proof. And of course any lawyer with litigation against Plainfield Asset Management should have access to its lawyer's e-mail.

Thanks, Max Holmes, for trying to show everyone how cool you are at a talk. Instead of looking cool, you've given every plaintiff's lawyer a late Christmas and Hanukkah present.

P.S. The Department of Justice, which is investigating your hedge fund, will also find your post useful. God bless us, everyone.

I Am Already Dead

A science fiction writer learned what any thoughtful person has known for years: We are all as good as dead.

If you wanted to kill me, I'm dead. If I wanted to kill you, you're dead. The logistics of mass murder and destruction are uncomplicated. Wait for me outside of my apartment. Walk by and pull the trigger. The end:

I was a real-life secret agent. I didn't have the hand-grenade cuff links or the poison-dart pen, but in 2004 I was recruited by the Department of Homeland Security for its Red Cell program. As they described it - and as The Washington Post later reported - Red Cell was the government's way of trying to anticipate how terrorists would next attack the United States.

I'm not allowed to tell you what the targets were. Or where they were. But I can say that we'd destroy major cities like my hometown, New York. In minutes. And when I went home at night, I felt horrified, because I saw how easy it was to kill us.

His newfound knowledge of his own mortality lead him to the wrong implication. He should be unafraid of death. Once you accept death as an inevitably, and you realize that you are already dead, then there is nothing to fear.

The samurai, more than any other culture, had a healthy relationship with death. In the Hagakure, the samuri philosophers advised:

If by setting one's heart right every morning and evening, one is able to live as though his body were already dead, he pains freedom in the Way. His whole life will be without blame, and he will succeed in his calling.

Thus:

Meditation on inevitable death should be performed daily. Every day when one's body and mind are at peace, one should meditate upon being ripped apart by arrows, rifles, spears and swords, being carried away by surging waves, being thrown into the midst of a great fire, being struck by lightning, being shaken to death by a great earthquake, falling from thousand-foot cliffs, dying of disease or committing seppuku at the death of one's master. And every day without fail one should consider himself as dead.

There is a saying of the elders' that goes, "Step from under the eaves and you're a dead man. Leave the gate and theenemy is waiting." This is not a matter of being careful. It is to consider oneself as dead beforehand.

How Government Caused the Jared Lee Loughner Massacre

Everyone wants a why for the mass shooting, and now we have it:

The suspect in Saturday's deadly rampage purchased a firearm legally after passing an FBI background check, the company's vice president of hunting operations told FoxNews.com on Sunday.

The memo also includes information about the suspect's mother, who works for the Pima County Board of Supervisors and notes that Loughner has multiple arrests but no criminal record.

Word on the street is that Mommy used her connection with the County Sherrif's office to keep Loughner from being formally charged. Loughner, you'll recall, terrified a community college campus:

We know that Loughner's behavior so bothered his classmates and professors at Pima Community College that the school asked him to leave, ordering him to undergo a psychological evaluation. His strange conduct also led to several run-ins with Pima campus police, and prompted one student to vent in an e-mail to a friend that Loughner "scared the living crap" out of her.

Even though Loughner was a criminal and a psycho, he never did jail time. This is because his mom was well-connected, and called the right people. Thus, those who need a scapegoat have found it: Unequal justice under the law is why a Congresswoman is in the hospital, and a small child is dead.

It is time to formally investigate Mommy Loughner, and all of the police and prosecutors who did her bidding. Were formal or informal bribes exchanged? Someone must be held accountable now, and something must be done to protect us in the future.

Preventing the next massacre requires a radical solution. Government officials must longer have the power to pull strings to protect their friends and families. Until people like Mommy Loughner are stripped of their ability to "call in favors," none of us are safe. In the meantime, the police and prosecutors who allowed Jared Lee Loughner to go on his reign of terror must be fired immediately.

The Alpha Files: Gavin Newsom

It's now former San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom, as Newsom heads to Sacramento to become Lieutenant Governor. Newsom is a fantastic example of alpha morality in action:

During Newsom's tenure, we saw him legalize gay marriage, publicly battle alcohol and cocaine addiction, give us (Tom Ammiano's) Healthy SF, screw his best friend and his wife, feud with the Board of Supervisors, throw a shit fit, date and then marry former SFist commenter Jennifer Siebel, spark countless masturbation fantasies, and maintain the second best hair in San Francisco. We will miss him dearly. (Seriously, we will.)

Morality is not fixed, but shifts based on the status of the actor. A computer engineer who checks out a Gavin Newsom is an Alpha Male girl is a creep. When Newsom does it, we all smile. There is a moral for the young men of the world.

You can conform to "morality," or you can become an alpha male. Your choice will mean the difference between freedom and slavery.

Patricia Maisch Has Message for "The Spearhead"

Stop being such pussies!

At a press conference on Sunday afternoon, Pima County, Ariz., Sheriff Clarence Dupnik offered more details on how suspected Arizona shooter Jared Loughner was disarmed.

Dupnik said that when Loughner ran out of bullets in his first magazine clip, a woman who had already been shot "went up and grabbed" the new magazine "and tore it away from him." Dupnik said the name of the woman was known [she's in the video, below - Mike] but he did not share it during the press conference.

What People Won't Learn From Jared Loughner

While doing nothing more karmically dangerous than going to the grocery store, you might die. Someone might shoot you in the face.

You could die in a car accident whenever you leave your home. Even if you remain in your home, you could break your neck in the shower. (Household accidents are a leading cause of death.)

Life is precious. Yes, that sounds cliché. After you're done rolling your eyes, answer me this: What have you done with your life?

You will eventually die. It might be today. Instead of being terrorized by Loughner, love those close to you. It may be the last time you see them - or they, you. Instead of wasting your time on frivlous people, create experiences that will become memories - which eventually will be the last nourishment for your old bones.

The tragedy of life is that most people never live. Remember, you must die.  Vanitas

"Heroic Woman Charged Jared Loughner, Averting 'Huge Greater Catastrophe'"

Everyone is focusing on Jared Loughner, when instead they should be focusing on...Whom? We don't know whom she is, but the whom is a woman who ran shit when Loughner tried re-loading his gun:

At a press conference on Sunday afternoon, Pima County, Ariz., Sheriff Clarence Dupnik offered more details on how suspected Arizona shooter Jared Loughner was disarmed.

Dupnik said that when Loughner ran out of bullets in his first magazine clip, a woman who had already been shot "went up and grabbed" the new magazine "and tore it away from him." Dupnik said the name of the woman was known but he did not share it during the press conference.

After the confrontation with the woman, Loughner was able to load another magazine into his weapon, but "the spring in the magazine failed," Dupnik said, and two men were able to get his weapon away from him and subdue him until law enforcement arrived.

Dupnik said the work of these three people potentially averted a "huge greater catastrophe."

In an open society, any of us - on any day - could be shot. That's the price we pay to live more nobly than human cattle.

Instead of projecting our own values onto a mentally ill man (whose death means nothing and symbolizes and symptomizes nothing), we should celebrate those who make living in a free and open society possible.

It's not police, as police did not stop the gunman. Police show up after people are dead.

It's not politicians. After shedding crocodile tears, politicians celebrate shootings as an opportunity to give themselves more power over terrified masses.

It's people - people like the woman who charged Loughner and the two men who took him down - who make freedom possible.

If you want to improve society, stop looking outside yourself. Stop looking to the government, the police, and the politicians. The solution to every social problem is you.
